Ubud market is popular as a souvenir and craft market. It become famous since Walter Spices, Rudolf Bonnet & Antonio Blanco lived in Ubud around 1930’s. Ubud market existed approximately in the same period of Ubud palace, it was around 1800’s. Today Ubud market become an economic machine for the local people. It attract a lot of visitor/tourist who stayed in Ubud village.

Then please take Trans Metro Dewata bus corridor 1 – Stop in Ubung Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a Trans Metro Dewata bus corridor 4 – Stop at halte Puri Ubud (Ubud Palace).

From Ngurah Rai Airport:
Please to reach Ngurah Rai Domestic Gate first – Then, find Trans Metro Dewata bus Shelter/Halte.

*) It’s really not efficient trip using public transport in Bali. Waste your time and energy.

**) For backpacker i recommend you to rent a scooter to reach this place and use google map as your navigator.

***) You can also use Go-jek or Grab transport. Their price reasonable, but you have to install the apps first and the driver may not be able to speak English.

****) You can also use Perama shuttle bus. Their price is reasonable, but you have to check their schedule first on their website for booking: Perama Shuttle Bus.

*) Some tropical fruits supplies really depend on the season. Don’t surprised if you can’t find it or maybe limited supply and expensive. But, when the season come, it’s super cheap. For example, red dragon fruit sells for IDR 10K per kg on the season.

**) The coconut water in the Ubud early moning market is just IDR 10K only. This is the best deal. If you buy on the cafe it will be around IDR 25K-35K.

*) You won’t see anything if you visit on holy hindus day. All the seller and mostly are local people busy in home town to celebrate and welcoming those big days.

HOW TO GET THE CHEAP PRICE?

USE THESE TRICKS:

  1. Bargain the price.
  2. Pretend to leave the seller.
  3. Talk in local language.

*) Always bargaining to get low price. Nothing to loose to try this trick. You can try ask 30%-50% of their first price.

**) After you bargain the price and you say “No, too expensive” and pretend to leave them. Sometime they will call you back and lowering their price by them selves. You can continue bargain until you get the price that you want (deal).

***) Use Balinese language when talk to the seller is an effective way to get cheap (local price). I always use this trick. 😉

****) Well, you don’t have to be expert in Balinese language. Just remember some vocab and number in Balinese. Then you will get cheap price and plus bonus: respect and smile from the seller.

  1. Not cheap price, need bargaining to lower the price.
  2. Dirty market issue.
  3. Cunning & not respect merchant.
  4. Many merchant selling the same items.
  5. Some visitor said it’s like other traditional market.

    Best place for souvenirs and a really cheap bargain! Also so much to see and learn about local crafts and people. You could easily spend many hours in this place, central and easy to find, but hard to leave! Luckily there are great coffee shops not far away in vase, like me, you need to take shopping breaks.

      The coffee shop is out of Ubud market actually.
      But, it’s on the walking distance.
      Other option you can drink coconut water or Gelato ice cream nearby for shopping breaks.

    A truly real atmosphere of life in a typical Balinese community, visiting a traditional market is the right thing.. There for sure I get necessities at a much cheaper price
