WHAT IS PENGLIPURAN VILLAGE?
Penglipuran heritage village is a beautiful heritage highland village in the regency of Bangli, Bali. Penglipuran village established in Bangli kingdom era. It’s best known for its everlasting culture and beutiful village landscape.
Penglipuran village has awesome pedestrian zone and beautiful manicured garden. It’s located in front of the houses, along the the way from the gate towards the temple. The Penglipuran village situated at around 700 meters above the sea level. It’s offering you cool atmosphere and clean-fresh air.
Penglipuran words consist of two words, Pengeling and Pura. Pengeling means reminder or remembering. Pura means ancestor. No argue, it’s best known as it’s everlasting heritage culture. It’s so unique, different than others in Bali. The heritage rules and punishment still exist and applied in everyday life. Even for spatial and architectural set of rules, it’s not changing since hundreds years ago.

OPEN FOR ANY VISITOR/TOURIST
*) Due to Corona virus, the Penglipuran village community decide to close the village on 18th-30th March 2020.
**) It seems they extend it since the pandemic of Corona virus still exist.
***) Penglipuran village authorities plan to open for tourist on the beginning of September 2020.
****) Penglipuran village open for tourist visits since September 2nd, 2020, but the number of visitor are limited.
*****) Penglipuran village authorities decided to close their village from tourist since September 15th, 2020 for safety reason.
******) Since November 17th, 2020 Penglipuran village authorities reopen for tourist.

*) It’s nice to see youth villagers working together to make ‘Penjor’ and set it up. No one pay them. But, they are happy make it together to welcome ‘Galungan day’.

HOW TO GET TO PENGLIPURAN VILLAGE?
There is no public transport to get there.
*) For backpacker i recommend you to rent a scooter to reach this village and use google maps as your navigator.
*) The bamboo forest located around 100 meter north of the temple.
*) This amazing roof made from bamboo. It was taken from the bamboo forest. But, a local can’t take it directly from bamboo forest, they need a permit from local authority (old wise people).

Some restroom and toilet. Better bring your own tissue.
Some house selling snacks, foods and juice.

*) They have a local wisdom. If a thief is caught, then the punishment is to return the four chickens with different colors of the feathers to the four temples around the village. So, all the villagers will know who did it. Seems it’s a social punishment than criminal punishment. Looks like it’s more effective than modern law.

*) In the highest terrace above the houses terrace you will see a temple. As a holy place, it located in the highest terrace.

*) It”s really nice and authentic of Bali village. The footpath and the plants in front of the house makes a really nice atmosphere here. Moreover if you visit one or two days before the Galungan Day, this village will looks so pretty.
