WHAT IS NEKA ART MUSEUM?

DESCRIPTION:

The Neka Art Museum was established in 1982 and it named after a Balinese teacher Suteja Neka who collected paintings for artistic documentation. Today the Neka museum has a great selection of works from many famous Balinese artists and expats who have lived here and influenced local artists. It’s collection of foreign artworks by Balinese, Indonesian and foreign artists all were inspired by the natural beauty, life, and culture of Bali.

Visiting the Neka Art Museum is a journey to the past, an educational tour that enlightening the visitor about techniques, the history of the development of art in Bali and the continuity it self. The visit the Neka Art Museum gain a better understanding and appreciation of Balinese art and culture.

There is no direct public transport to get there. You have to take multiple public transport to reach this place.

From UBUD :
If you stay in Ubud area you can just walk to reach this place.

From KUTA:
Please to reach Kuta Central Parking – Then find Trans Metro Dewata bus Shelter/Halte.
Then please take Trans Metro Dewata bus corridor 1 – Stop in Ubung Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a Trans Metro Dewata bus corridor 4 – Stop at halte Puri Ubud (Ubud Palace).
Then take a walk to reach this place.

  • Fee: Free.
  • Timetable: Every 10 minutes.

From Ngurah Rai Airport:
Please to reach Ngurah Rai Domestic Gate first – Then, find Trans Metro Dewata bus Shelter/Halte.
Then take a Trans Metro Dewata bus corridor 2 – Stop in Kuta Central Parking Shelter/Halte.
Then take a Trans Metro Dewata bus corridor 1 – Stop in Ubung Mini/Micro Bus Station.

*) It’s really not efficient trip using public transport in Bali. Waste your time and energy.

***) You can also use Go-jek or Grab transport. Their price reasonable, but you have to install the apps first and the driver may not be able to speak English.

PROS:
1. Awesome art collection.
2. Stunning art things from Balinese & abroad artist.
3. Vintage & contemporary art things displayed.
4. Balinese art development & their culture gallery.
5. Nice atmosphere and  beautiful garden.

CONS:
1. Crowded on tourist season/weekend/Indonesian holiday.
2. Some visitor said it’s expensive entrance fee.
3. No museum tour guide.
4. No Aircon (AC) to preserve paintings collection.
5. Poor maintenance.

UPDATE STATUS OF NEKA ART MUSEUM:

OPEN FOR ANY VISITOR/TOURIST

*) Since March 22nd, 2020 Neka Art museum has been closed according to government instruction to avoid Corona spreads.

**) Neka Art Museum Ubud has open since November, 2020.
