WHAT IS MELASTI BEACH?

DESCRIPTION:

Melasti beach (pantai Melasti) is a new beach in Bali after the government make the access road to reach the beach by cutted the limestone hill and today still under construction. It just attract many tourist’s heart since the beach offering the white long coast, wide horizontal line view and great view from the top of the limestone hill.

Melasti beach name taken from ‘Melasti’. It’s mean a Hindu Balinese purification ceremony and ritual which held several days prior to the Nyepi (The Day of Silence) holy day. It was categorized as ‘hidden beach’ because it’s located in the back of limestone hill and you need to climb down hundreds of stairs to access the beach. But, today the government build a way to access to the beach.

*) Weekend sometime crowded by local people.

DRY SEASON:
April  – October.

*) July to September are the most ideal months to visit this beach since it has little rain and sometime no rain et all.

LOCATION:
Village (Desa): Ungasan, Kutuh
Sub-district (Kecamatan): Kuta Selatan
Regency (Kabupaten): Badung

DISTANCE:
About 27 km south of Denpasar or 1 hour.
About 49 km south of Ubud or 2 hours.
About 22 km south of Kuta beach or 1 hours.
About 21 km south of Ngurah Rai airport or 45 minutes.

HOW TO GET TO MELASTI BEACH?

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
There is no direct public transport to get there.

*) For backpacker i recommend you to rent a scooter to reach this beach and use google map as your navigation.

There are some cafe & restaurant.

*) Bintang beer IDR 25K.

RESTROOM/TOILET:
Some restroom and toilet.

*) Better bring your own pocket tissue.

*) Well, this beach has not so many corals actually. You have to snorkeling till the mid to see the corals, crabs, fishes, octopus, etc.

HERMIT CRAB:

SEA URCHIN (BULU BABI):

*) Don’t step on this creature because it has poisonous spikes.

**) In Java island, the local people hunt this creature. They eat the fresh inside part of this creature. They claimed it has good nutrition and high protein.

*) Sometime you will see some couple do the prewedding photography here.

**) I surprised many of them are not a local person. Seems they are from China, Taiwan, Hongkong, etc.

MELASTI BEACH HIDDEN SUNSET:

*) Even it looks so similar with the Pandawa beach, it offering many beautiful sights and more quiet than Pandawa beach. The road also has amazing view such as cutted limestone hill, forest, horizontal line, long white sands beach. You won’t regret visit this beach.

PROS AND CONS:

PROS:
1. Clean beach.
2. White sand beach.
3. Long coast line.
4. Awesome limestone hill.
5. Wide parking space.

CONS:
1. Crowded beach on weekend/student holiday/Indonesian holiday.
2. Can not swimming when low tide.
3. Rude sunbath rental.
4. Dirty beach on Monsoon (west wind) season.
5. Rude parking man.

UPDATE STATUS OF MELASTI BEACH:

OPEN FOR ANY VISITOR/TOURIST

*) Since March 21st, 2020 Melasti beach has been closed according to government instruction to avoid Corona spreads.

**) Since June 24th, 2020 local authority open the beach as considering to economic growth of local people. They don’t charge the entrance fee until July 1st, 2020. They claimed it’s a preparation for facing a new normal by testing healthy protocol. This decision seems against the Governor or government policy.

You can combine to visit these places when you visiting Melasti beach:

1. Karma beach
2. Green Bowl beach (5 km or 11 minutes).
3. Pandawa beach (8 km or 17 minutes).
4. Nusa Dua beach (13 km or 27 minutes).
5. Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) culture park (7 km or 14 minutes).
6. Dreamland beach (12 km or 30 minutes).
7. Tanjung Benoa beach (14 km or 40 minutes).
8. Uluwatu temple + monkey forest + sunset + bali dance show.

    Hey there. Is the Melasti beach still open in pandemic Corona period as i found Kuta beach were closed? thank u

      Melasti beach also closed due to Badung government instruction.
      It just available for local who want to do ceremony here.
      Also it just limited number of pilgrims only.

      Open now, just been there. but make sure you do the the government protocols of wearing masks. Pecalang checkpoint with temperature checking is being done to all before going in, and pay the usual fee after.

        As you can see in the article above, i already mentioned it.
        Melasti beach already open before Bali New Normal period (9 July 2020) by government.
        It’s already open since 24 June 2020.
        Anyway, thank you for your advice.
