Gilimanuk Ferry port (Pelabuhan Gilimanuk) is a point where a Ferry boat starts or ends. This port positioned in the west of Bali, Indonesia, exactly in the area of Melaya, Jembrana regency, about 3 hours from Denpasar.
One reason people come to Gilimanuk port: takes a Ferry boat go to or from Banyuwangi (Ketapang) Ferry port in Java. Ferries run every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day and take about half an hour to make the crossing, although loading and unloading can take much longer.
*) Since the first Bali bombing happened in 2002, security is much tighter at Gilimanuk port (Pelabuhan Gilimanuk) than it used to be and you should be prepared for some long queues. People from Java should be ID checked by security and asked what purpose comes to Bali.

HOW TO GET TO GILIMANUK PORT?
There is a cheap public transport to get there.
From Denpasar you can use a Mini/Micro Bus from Ubung bus station to Gilimanuk port and pay about Rp45,000 – Rp55,000 depend on the bus.
*) Ask to the operator if you still confused. Operator will glad to give information. 🙂
**) You have to be careful when you arrive Ubung bus station. Some person will lift up the price of bus ticket and then offering to you (Dodgy touts).

HOW MUCH IS FERRY COST/FEE AT GILIMANUK PORT (PELABUHAN GILIMANUK)?
GILIMANUK FERRY COST (TICKET PRICE):
- IDR 8K per person.
- IDR 22K for a bike and one person.
- IDR 159K for a car.
UPDATE FERRY FEE:
- IDR 13K per person.
- IDR 27K for a bike and one person.
- IDR 182.5K for a car.
*) Since July 12th, 2020 Indonesia owned enterprise PT ASDP applied online ticket for any kind of vehicle. But, then it postponed until August 25th, 2020.
***) The ticket price in the Ferizy apps is cheaper than other.
HOW TO BOOK FERRY BOAT AT GILIMANUK?
1. DOWNLOAD ‘FERIZY’ FERRY APPS:

*) This app is not available in apple store. Just in Google play store only.
*) It seems this policy makes an uncomfortable for Ferry boat user. It’s too much apps in the smartphone. Also the user has to take the risk if they come in Gilimanuk harbour (Pelabuhan Gilimanuk) pass over the schedule that written on the ticket. The Ferry ticket no longer valid.
**) This policy possible mess up or crowded in the Ferry harbour if they apply like a flight ticket. You need to enter harbor two hours before departing. Also you book the Ferry ticket at least 5 hours before departing. The problem is you don’t know when you and your vehicle gonna arrive at Ferry harbour. It depend on the traffic condition, how fast you driving, vehicle condition, asphalt road condition, Hindus ceremony along the way, etc. I think is better if PT ASDP back applying e-money (a card) for payment. It’s already applied in Indonesia toll road. Most of Indonesian driver has it. Everything is gonna be easy for everyone. Including ASDP worker.
2. BUY A FERRY TICKET ON SITE
There are so many Ferry ticket window (Loket) at Gilimanuk harbour (Pelabuhan Gilimanuk). So, you don’t have to worry if you didn’t buy online. But, there is an additional charge. It’s about IDR 5K for their services.

Normally it will takes about 30-50 minutes trip. It depend on the weather, wave condition, loading time, peak season, etc.

*) There is an authentic culinary from Gilimanuk called Ayam betutu (hot and spicy chicken). Chicken is boiled in a broth of local spices for up to 3 hours and wood-smoked (Betutu means smoked). It is normally served with steamed rice and plecing kangkung (hot and spicy spinach). If you are a food hunter, you should try this cuisine.

THE BUSES ON GILIMANUK PORT
- Gilimanuk to Mengwi Bus Station = IDR 45K-55K
- Gilimanuk to Singaraja (North Bali) = IDR 45K-55K (PO. Menggala & PO. Puspa Sari)
*) The bus only accept passenger in the evening or night time only. They don’t accept the passenger in the day time. It seems they don’t want make a conflict with the local Micro/Mini Bus.
**) No online reservation and no timetable.
- Gilimanuk to some cities in Java = Vary price
*) You have to wait near the bridge between Docs and Ferry. The bus usually stop and waiting for the available Ferry. Ask the bus crew about their destination and the prices.
2. MINI/MICRO BUS:

- Gilimanuk to Denpasar (Terminal Ubung) = IDR 40K-50K.
- Gilimanuk to Singaraja via Pemuteran and Lovina = IDR 40K-50K
*) The price sometime not a fixed price. It depend on the total number of passenger. If the Micro/Mini Bus full loaded, it will be cheaper. If quiet, it will be more expensive.

- Scooter/Bike = IDR 22K (Included the driver fee, not passenger)

*) The new Ferry cost applied since May 1st, 2020. It refer to decision of Indonesia Transportation Ministry.
**) The Ferry Gilimanuk fee is cheaper if you buy online.
THE CAR INSIDE OF FERRY BOAT
*) Gilimanuk Ferry port (Pelabuhan Gilimanuk) has one hour time difference between Ketapang Ferry port, Banyuwangi, Java. Even the distance only 5 km or 30-50 minutes trip by Ferry, it has time difference. Gilimanuk port is GMT +8, Ketapang port (Java) is GMT +7. You need to set up your watch. But, no need for your smartphone.
PROS AND CONS:

- Cheap way to go to Java.
- No price discrimination for local and foreigner.
- Open 24 hours.
- Bali western port.
- Confusing direction to enter or out of Gilimanuk harbour.

FERRY TO JAVA (Ketapang) and vice versa:
*) Update Ferry status: All the Ferry boat service to Java and vice versa are available. But, it’s not available for traveler/tourist/foreigner due to Corona virus. It’s available for local people only.
**) Update info: since 24 April 2020 – 31 May 2020 the Gilimanuk Ferry port is not available for passenger transfer to Java and vice versa. It’s available for cargo vehicle only. This policy refer to Indonesia Transportation Ministry Rules: Permenhub No 25 Tahun 2020.
***) Update info: since 28 May 2020, if you want to enter Bali by Ferry you need to fill form from this link: https://cekdiri.baliprov.go.id/. Then you will have QR code that use for buying Ferry ticket. You also need to show Rapid test result. The Rapid test result valid for 7 days only.
****) Update info: since 28 June 2020, Rapid test certificate valid for 14 days.
*****) Update information: since 9 July 2020 (New Normal), all sea port is available for passenger transfer. But, you need to show Non-reactive Rapid Test certificate.
******) Update information: Since 18 Desember 2020 – 4 Januari 2021, you need bring a negative antigen Rapid test result. Maximum 2 x 24 hours before entering Bali.

*) It’s 500 meter north of Ketapang harbour, Java.
**) Since December 17th, 2020 Klinik Pratama in Navy base, Ketapang informed if they available for Antigen Rapid test.
3. BANYUWANGI BARU TRAIN STATION (KETAPANG JAVA).
*) Unfortunately you need to show train ticket first before you get Antigen rapid test here.
